Created by Kevin Honeycutt and Shawn Gormley. In the words of Dr. Scott McLeod, this video “highlights some of the digital disconnects that exist between students and teachers”.
I rebuilt my old Dell XPS M1710 with Windows 7 yesterday and it’s fantastic. No really, it’s a dream to use and seems to have given my machine a new lease of life.
It’s not that I had any problems with poor embattled Vista, which served me well for almost three years. It was time for a rebuild and I thought I might as well install the latest to satisfy my inner geek.

I attended a meeting at the Essa Academy in Bolton yesterday to discuss how I could help the senior leadership use SIMS to record lesson attendance.
Earlier in the week, I was lucky enough to attend the Heads & School Leaders’ ICT Conference in Bolton. While my colleagues and I were exhibiting at the event, we managed to sneak into a presentation by Showkat Badat, Principal at Essa Academy and Abdul Chohan, Assistant Head Teacher.
Delegates were informed of the changes that were being introduced at the academy, including an ICT programme which will see every student and member of staff with their own iPod Touch by September 2009. These devices will be able to link to the state-of-the-art wireless network that covers the entire academy estate.
Please watch the video below to see Essa Academy’s showcase for their Manifesto for Change.
The professionals at establishments like Essa Academy are at the forefront of educational transformation. I am indeed privileged to be in a position that allows me to work closely with them.

While this video offers a light-hearted view of the loss of USB sticks, it does serve as a reminder that they do go missing. If you work in a school please, please, please don’t store children’s information on USB sticks. If you don’t have access to secure on-line file storage, ask your IT provider/local government authority what they’re doing about it.
For those working in the UK, please be wary about using Google Docs to store documents that contain children’s sensitive information. It is an offence to store such data on servers hosted outside of the European Union and you’re also required to have specific data usage agreements in place.
