Windows 7 Release Candidate in April 2009

Microsoft have revealed that they will be releasing a public Release Candidate (RC) of Windows 7, possibly in April 2009.
My colleague in the Schools’ ICT Unit has installed the 64-bit version of Windows 7 as his main OS and, apart from one or two bugs (to be expected with a beta), has seen good compatibility and improved performance over Vista.
Please visit the Engineering Windows 7 Blog to read about some of the enhancements made on the back of the public beta.
The official launch of the new OS is rumoured to be as early as September 2009.

I tried teaching with the beta for a while – there are some great features, especially for using it on an interactive whiteboard. The handwriting recognition has come a long way, and a lot of the annoyances from Vista have been redesigned. In the end I went back to XP mainly due to driver issues and a few little bugs, but hopefully the RC will be great!
Thanks for taking the time to comment Steve. I love the fact that you gave the Windows 7 Beta a try in the classroom. I wonder if you were first teacher in the UK to do so?
I’m considering rebuilding my laptop with the Windows 7 Release Candidate over the Easter holidays, so I’ll report back here on how it goes!
